PricePie comes out of the oven

Don’t you just love the smell of a freshly baked pie as it’s gently coaxed out of a baking hot oven? Your eyes light up and your spirits lift as the tasty little morsel sees light of day for the first time. Smells aside, that’s how I feel about my most recent copywriting adventure: cooking up PricePie’s new website which went live this morning. Sam from PricePie came to me with the brief less than a month ago. His business idea is a new way to encourage fair and ethical prices: PricePie clearly shows where your money goes when you buy products and services. You’ll...

Two simple methods to improve your copywriting

On Tuesday my head was a simmering stew of knowledge, fit to boil over and spill scorched information onto a hob of inspiration. The kitchen was a master class in promotional copywriting and head chef was Mike Kingston of OpenPage. Mike’s an old school consultant in marketing and he’s worked with some of British industry’s biggest behemoths. He lectures in the timeless practice of increasing sales. If you ask any photographer what their pet hate is (aside from people who don’t like having their photograph taken) it’s more than likely to be that sinking feeling after having let a photo opportunity slip by – either by not having a camera to hand or passing it by without thinking to take a shot. While this has happened in the past, luckily it happens much less for me these days because I always carry a point and shoot camera. And last Friday at a wedding I was fortuitous enough to have both DSLR cameras with me while taking a walkabout outside the wedding reception...

Wood carving sculpture workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park

Brooding ‘summer’ rain clouds managed to hold off for a few hours on Saturday, just long enough for me to poke my camera lens about at a wood carving sculpture workshop at Yorkshire Sculpture Park. The workshop was well attended, its populous sprinkled with a talented group of attentive sculptors taking on varying levels of artistic ambition. Work ranged from simple human forms through to a full size two-seater bench. I was invited along to subtly capture people and process, for use in marketing and promotion of future events through their web site or printed material....
